Become comfortable with being uncomfortable

This is a necessity. Certainly if you want to control your stress levels. Periods of uncertainty will be more common than you may like. People will ask questions for which you have no clear answers. Uncertainty will take two general forms.

  • Project / organisation - Requirements complexity or lack of clarity, technical challenges, employer/peer pressure, deadlines
  • Role / personal - Lack of technical or organisational knowledge, self confidence, peer comparison. Am I good enough to be here?

In the early parts of your career you will likely experience some or all of these things. As time progresses comfort will set in. Uncertainty will remain but you’ll have a broad, and ever growing, back catalogue of experience to draw on. Confidence will build. You’ll be fine!
