You’ll need some knowledge of working on medium to large scale IT projects. That could be as a developer, analyst, within devops, infrastructure etc. Solution Architecture is a senior role, even at entry level. An organisation is paying for your breadth of experience in delivering change within a complex environment.

A bit of background about myself. I’ve a strong software engineering background. Architects come from backgrounds including analysis and infrastructure. My route originates from development. BASIC, hardware/Assembly language in the 80’s and 90’s, Visual Basic/VBA and onto Windows/DCOM/SQL Server work before focusing on what we now call Solution Architecture.
