The Individual

The previous section outlined Solution Architecture as a role. We spoke of what the role brings to an organisation. This section focuses on the characteristics of the person carrying out the role of a Solution Architect. The qualities needed by that individual.

A Solution Architect will draw on ‘soft skills’ as much as technical ones. At times more so. Technologies come and go. The pace of change in Solution Architecture is slower than software development. Many of the common technologies of 20 years ago are of little to no use after a period of time. However Solution Architecture skills like stakeholder management etc. remain valid.
